Music Monday - Do Everything

Another great song from one of my favorite Christian artists.
Steven Curtis Chapman's "You Do"

I often feel like the things that I do every single day, do not matter.
Sometimes I feel like "I" don't matter.
To be honest, the majority of the days, I feel like I'm just not measuring up.
Measuring up to who? to what? I don't really know, I only know I tend to not feel like I am "good enough".

This song combats those feelings.

I think parents tend to tell their children that as long as they try their hardest or do their best, then it's good enough. When in reality, God doesn't really care how hard we try.... we are good enough just who we are. Just who he created us to be. What we DO simply doesn't matter. It's already been DONE for us by His Son, Jesus Christ. All we have to do is accept that Love and Grace and cross over that bridge into His arms and walk off into the sunset with Him. Sorry, that's an analogy we talked about last night at our small group's study of The Contagious Christian at our church. But it's true. God loves us SO MUCH, more than we can even comprehend, and is ALL THAT WE NEED... and we get to spend to eternity with Him and we don't have to do a thing to earn it. (only accept it) We don't have to be good enough! We don't have to measure up! We are never going to be perfect. We're always going to fall short. And He knows it. That's why He sent His son to rescue us.

I know I fall short. I know I'm not perfect and I never claim to be, I admit that I am wrong and don't have a problem saying I'm sorry. In fact, I really don't have that great of a self esteem. But I do know WHOSE I am and I do want to glorify Him in everything I do. So this song helps remind me to keep trying because the things I do actually do matter if they bring Him glory. So that's what I'll keep striving for, every day.

Your picking up toys on the living room floor for the 15th time today
Matching up socks
Sweeping up lost cheerios that got away

You put a baby on your hip
Color on your lips and head out the door

While I may not know you,
I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes, does it matter at all?

Well let me remind you, it all matters just as long
As you do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you,
Cause he made you,
To do
Every little thing that you do
To bring a smile to His face
Tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every little thing you do

Maybe your that guy with the suit and tie
Maybe your shirt says your name

You may be hooking up mergers
Cooking up burgers
But at the end of the day

Little stuff
Big stuff
In between stuff
God sees it all the same

While I may not know you
I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes, does it matter at all?
Well let me remind you, it all matters just as long
As you do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you,
Cause he made you
To do
Every little thing that you do
To bring a smile to His face
Tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every thing you do

Maybe your sitting in math class
Or maybe on a mission in the Congo
Or maybe your working at the office
Singing along with the radio

Maybe your dining at a 5-star
Or feeding orphans in the...
Anywhere and everywhere that you are

Whatever you do
It all matters
So do what you do
Don't ever forget

To do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you,
Cause He made you
To do
Every little thing that you do
To bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace

As you do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you,
Cause he made you
To do
Every little thing that you do
To bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace
With every move that you make
And every little thing you do

In every little thing you do
In every little thing you do

  1. I love this song. Not feeling good enough is a major struggle of mine and an area God has been addressing with me lately. Thankfully His grace is sufficient and it's really not about my ability or lack thereof to be enough. I can rest in Him knowing that He is enough. I actually have a post written in my head based on my prayer I wrote during my quiet time recently about this. I've been prayerfully trying to decide if I should move it from my head to the Internet. Maybe...
